Today there was no time for that, Denethor, Steward of the Throne of Gondor, had personally summoned him regarding the rumors that had reached the city from the West. Gandalf had long ago learned that the spirit of a people was far more important than steel when it came to resisting the will of the Enemy, so he kept himself informed of the mood and fortunes of the Men of the West when he could. Normally Gandalf would have humored them, perhaps purchased an apple or a loaf of bread and innocently questioned them about the goings on of the city. The normally crowded streets were empty save for a few die hard merchants huddled under the overhangs of their stalls, halfheartedly calling out to the wizard as he walked by. It might better be called the grey city now, the light rain that fell left the normally pristine stone walls darkened slightly. Gandalf the GreyGandalf was old enough to know firsthand that the white city of Minas Tirith had seen better days. I'm going to post this in bursts of five chapters over the next couple days since I'm on chapter 23 on the other site and I don't want to just flood the thread.

3017 which is about a year before the events of The Fellowship of the Ring. The Westerlands are from just before the War of the Five Kings started and all of the Westermen have been teleported back for the 'big trip' as it were. the premise is that the Westerlands, the realm of House Lannister, from A Song of Ice and Fire (Game of Thrones for TV watchers) is teleported magically to the western part of Gondor. This is a story I posted on another site (I'm not sure how strict the 'other boards don't concern us' rule is so I won't mention it for now) and some people over there said you guys might enjoy it.
